Church History
Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Cross in Metropolis, Illinois, was founded in 1961 as part of the American Lutheran Church synod (which merged into the ELCA in 1989). Since the beginning, the church motto has been "A Church That Cares." The congregation has grown from 40 founders to 200 members today. Pastor Art Dryver served as Lutheran Church of the Cross' first minister in 1962, and others led the church during its first 18 years. Since 1979 through today, Pastor David Deem has served the congregation.
In 1991, Lutheran Church of the Cross built an educational addition with new classrooms, an office, and a larger gathering room. | |
