Activities with opportunities for volunteering: Relay for Life participation Food Booth (Cancer drive) every June. Matching Funds activities from Thrivent Insurance, including our annual Chili Supper every March. C.O.P.E. Volunteers: The group who meets for Men in Mission's Prayer Breakfast (see them on our Groups page) is active in serving this cause. Metropolis Nursing and Rehab Care Miscellaneous volunteer opportunities In Kind Gifts Families may continue to share . . . Food for sick, and for families after a death C.O.P.E. food pantry Guardian Family Service Center: The Men in Mission group (see them on our Groups page) volunteers for service projects for this organization. Hope Unlimited Pregnancy Center Vienna Hospitality House for families of prisoners Water Wells in Africa through Marion Medical Mission. The Dorcas Quilters (see them on our Groups page) have sponsored at least two wells per year. The congregation has funded the construction of a total of 16 wells in Malawi and Tanzania.
Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Health Kits. The Dorcas Quilters (see them on our Groups page) not only provide quilts to LWR (over 300 each year), but also collect items for these Health Kits, which include one of each of the following: Hand towel Wash cloth Bath-size soap in its wrapper Toothbrush in its wrapper Toothpaste (unwrap packaging) Wide-tooth comb Metal nail file or nail clipper with file Six (6) 1/2" x 3/4" band-aids Used eyeglasses for Lions' Club Christmas Angel gifts Lutheran Social Services of Illinois: Prison Ministry - personal care kits Occasional mission trips to the Bridge Ministry in Nashville, Tennessee. An intergenerational group of 16 participated in 2012 and felt the experience was eye-opening and inspiring. According to youth member Graciela, "I found out that children get hungry, too."
